BIOGRAPHY

BJ. HABIBIE





Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie, born in Parepare, South Sulawesi, June 25, 1936 - died in Jakarta, September 11, 2019 at the age of 83 was the third President of the Republic of Indonesia. Previously, B.J. Habibie served as the 7th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, replacing Try Sutrisno. BJ Habibie replaced Soeharto, who resigned from the presidency on May 21, 1998.




B.J. Habibie is the fourth of eight children, Alwi Abdul Jalil Habibie and R.A. Tuti Marini Puspowardojo. His father worked as an agricultural expert from the ethnic Gorontalo, while his mother came from the ethnic Javanese



B. J. Habibie had studied at Dago Christian High School. Habibie then studied mechanical engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia, Bandung (now the Bandung Institute of Technology) in 1954.

Habibie had worked at Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm, an airline based in Hamburg, Germany. In 1973, he returned to Indonesia at the request of former president Suharto.



B.J. Habibie married Hasri Ainun Besari on May 12, 1962 in Rangga Malela, Bandung. The marriage ceremony of Habibie and Ainun was held in Javanese customs and culture, while the wedding reception was held the next day with Gorontalo customs and culture at the Preanger Hotel.
From his second marriage, Habibie and Ainun were blessed with two sons, Ilham Akbar Habibie and Thareq Kemal Habibie.



Habibie died at Gatot Subroto Army Hospital on September 11, 2019 due to his illness (heart failure) and age factors. Previously, Habibie had undergone intensive care since September 1, 2019. He was later buried next to his wife in the Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery on September 12, 2019 at 14.00 WIB. The funeral was attended by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.
